This page contains logistical information to help you plan your trip. There are complete details about the wedding ceremony, wedding reception, packing tips, area hotels, parking, and air and ground travel information.

Our Wedding Ceremony

We will be married at the New Castle Congregational Church on New Castle Island at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008. The church is located at 65 Main Street (Route 1B) in New Castle, New Hampshire.

Due to the configuration of the church, we ask that our guests arrive at the church by 10:00 a.m.

Parking is available next to the church, and at an auxiliary parking lot a short walk from the church at the entrance to the United States Coast Guard station. New Castle is approximately 10 minutes away from downtown Portsmouth via car.

Our Reception Site

The Governor John Langdon House is located at 143 Pleasant Street in the heart of Portsmouth. It is a 10-minute drive from New Castle Congregational Church and is a 12-15 minute walk from the Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth Hotel.

There is no parking at the reception site and we are unable to reserve public parking spaces for our guests.

  • You may wish to drive from the church to your hotel’s parking lot (if it’s in downtown Portsmouth) and then walk to the reception site.
  • Alternately, you may wish to use a public parking lot in Portsmouth.
  • Or, you may wish to use the COAST Downtown Loop trolley that travels through downtown Portsmouth every thirty minutes. There are trolley stops at the Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth Hotel and at the Governor John Langdon House. A one-way fare is $0.50.

Our wedding luncheon will take place in an event tent on the lawn and in the garden behind the Governor John Langdon House. Spike high heels are not recommended! Because this is an outdoor reception, you may wish to look at the weather forecast before packing for the wedding.

Packing Tips

Summer weather in New England can be unpredictable. As it’s often hot and humid, it’s best to pack clothing that keeps you cool and comfortable outdoors. Summer rain showers are a possibility, and we encourage you to pack accordingly. Following is a brief list of items you may wish to pack:

  • Comfortable shoes to wear at the outdoor wedding reception
  • Raincoat, poncho, or umbrella
  • Comfortable shoes for exploring Portsmouth or participating in outdoor adventures along the Seacoast
  • Swimsuits, sandals, sunscreen, and towels for beach enthusiasts
  • Baseball cap or visor and sunglasses if you’re planning on spending a lot of time outdoors
  • Camera to capture the sites and fun memories

Travel

We’re excited to welcome you to beautiful, historic Portsmouth! We hope the following information will assist with your travel plans:

To travel by car…

Take Interstate 95 to Exit 7 in New Hampshire. Turn east and drive 1 mile. This will place you on Market street and take you to downtown Portsmouth.

Important driving information…

If you drive to Portsmouth from Boston or anywhere due south along the eastern seaboard, please be aware that due to weekend vacationers en route to Maine and daily Boston-area rush hour traffic, driving times could be extended. Friday afternoons and evenings starting around 3:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings (all morning) lend themselves to particularly heavy traffic. During peak times, your total travel time from Boston northward could be approximately 2.5 hours. If you plan to drive from Boston on Saturday, August 2, we recommend that you depart Boston no later than 7:30 a.m.

To travel by air…

Portsmouth, New Hampshire is located approximately 70 minutes from Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston, MA, and 60 minutes from Manchester Airport (MHT) in Manchester, NH and Portland International Jetport (PWM) in Portland, ME. These airports are served by major airlines.

There is the option of flying into Portsmouth International Airport (PSM), a small, local airport that largely serves the city’s active seaport. Two airlines offer passenger service directly to Portsmouth. Pan Am has a very limited number of passenger flights to Portsmouth from other small New England airports. Skybus offers more expanded service to Portsmouth from cities nationwide. To book a flight on Skybus, you must book two separate flights, one from your originating city to Columbus, Ohio and the second flight from Columbus to Portsmouth International Airport (PSM).

Private companies offer ground transportation to/from all of these airports and Portsmouth. Please contact your Portsmouth hotel or one of these airports for more information.

To travel by rail…

The Downeaster by Amtrak runs four times each day between Boston, MA and Portland, ME. To travel by train to Portsmouth, exit the Downeaster at the Exeter, New Hampshire stop and take the COAST Bus service (Route 7E) from the Amtrak terminal to the Portsmouth Transportation Center at the Portsmouth International Airport (PSM) in Portsmouth, NH.
